Arlington
Bowie Looks Ready for Playoffs in 56 - 13 Win Over
Sam Houston |

The
Arlington Bowie Volunteers did make some mistakes
against Arlington Sam Houston on Friday night. But
not many. |
|
Bowie
looked like a team tuning up for a deep playoff run
in cruising past the Texans 56-13 at UT-Arlington’s
Maverick Stadium. |
|
Bowie (8-1, 5-0),
ranked No. 3 in the Star-Telegram
5A area rankings, had some dropped passes and a few
penalties, but the Volunteers’ balanced attack and
strong defensive play was too much for Sam Houston
(3-7, 0-6). |
|
Quentin Sargent
returned the opening kickoff of the second half 71
yards for a score, running back
Travis Evans scored on
a 15-yard run and Ismail
Shittu picked off a Sam Houston pass,
returning it 24 yards to give the Volunteers a 49-0
lead. |
|
Bowie gained 272
yards rushing on the night and 190 more through the
air, paced by Evans, who picked up 123 yards on 11
carries. Evans
opened the scoring for Bowie with the first of his
two touchdowns by capping the opening drive with a
7-yard run. |
|
Volunteers quarterback
Christian Matthews passed for 180 yards and
scored twice: on a 2-yard run late in the first
quarter and on an 8-yard scoring pass to Alex
Camacho in the second quarter. |
|
Bowie’s defense allowed
284 yards of offense, but much of that came after
the Volunteers starters left the game. |

Christian
Matthews, who passed for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Evans was playing one day after the death of his

Arlington Bowie is on cruise control against the
Texans as the Volunteers added two more
second-quarter scores.
Christian Matthews hit Alex Camacho with an
8-yard scoring pass and
Keidrick Jackson scored on a 16 yard run for
Bowie. The Volunteers are moving at ease on the
ground and through the air gaining 166 yards rushing
and throwing for 180 more. Sam Houston’s best
scoring chance of the game came late in first half.
A 25-yard run by Daniel Henry and a 43-yard pass
play from Jamal Turner to Kameel Jackson set the
Texans up at the Bowie 14 yard line, but Volunteer
defensive back Jordan Donell
picked off a Sam Houston pass at the 5 yard line to
end the threat. |
